Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)

All Badger Hill children are special: we seek to foster each individual’s unique talents and to provide support where needed.

However, we recognise that some children have special talents, which need nurturing. This happens through the careful planning of challenging and enriching activities within the classroom and the opportunity to access specialist coaching/ activities run at Badger Hill or by the Local Authority and enrichment organisations.

Some children may need help occasionally or continuously to enable them to overcome specific difficulties and help them make progress. Children with SEND are integrated into all aspects of school life through a whole school approach.

The needs of these children are met through the class teacher, support staff and SEND Co-ordinator. Educational health care plans (EHCP) are drawn up in consultation with the class teacher, teaching assistants, the SEND Co-ordinator, parents and (in the case of older children) the pupil. The EHCP determines a programme of work designed for the pupil and is implemented within the classroom and through specialised small group teaching. Educational Health Care Plans are created for children who may need specialist support.
