✨ Junior Leadership Team Applications ✨

This week, our Year 6 children took an incredibly brave step as they read aloud their applications for a place on our Junior Leadership Team.

With roles including Head Student, Deputy Head Student, Curriculum Leader, Reading Leader, ...Wellbeing Leader, House Captains and Prefects, it was wonderful to hear our children speak so passionately about Badger Hill. 💜

Some were understandably nervous, but every single child stood up and shared something from their application. We were so proud of the confidence, courage and maturity they showed. They spoke thoughtfully about our Badger Values, learning across school, how they would like to support others and the qualities and strengths they recognise in themselves. ⭐

Mrs Brook also spoke to the children about the British Value of democracy and how everyone's voice counts. 🗳️ Later today, children across school will cast their votes for who they would like to represent them as our Head and Deputy Head Students.

With such a high calibre of speeches, choosing will certainly not be easy. The successful candidates will be revealed at Year 6's Fish and Tips evening.

Whatever the outcome, we are incredibly proud of every Year 6 child who put themselves forward. 💜

🌟 40/40 CLUB 🌟

Each week, our Year 6 children complete an arithmetic paper, with the challenge of maintaining or beating their own personal score.

A huge congratulations to Preston, who is the first pupil of this academic year to achieve an incredible 40/40 and earn his ...place in our 40/40 Club. 🏆

Preston was presented with his special 40/40 Club badge and certificate during our most recent Pride & Joy assembly.

What a fantastic achievement, Preston. Keep up the brilliant work. ⭐

✈️ Curiosity Club✈️

Our curious minds tackled an exciting question during our latest session: Does the size of a paper aeroplane affect how far it will fly? 📄🔍

Before testing, the children made some brilliant predictions:

The smallest plane will fly the ...furthest because it is the lightest.
The largest plane will fly the furthest because it has the biggest wings.
The smallest plane will fly furthest because a fighter jet flies faster than a larger passenger plane.

What fantastic scientific reasoning behind these ideas! 🌟

Working in pairs, the children folded paper aeroplanes using three different paper sizes. They carefully kept the folding technique the same for each plane to ensure a fair test.

We headed outside to launch our designs but, unfortunately, the adverse weather had other ideas and kept our planes grounded! 💨🌧️

Don't worry, though—next time, we’ll take to the skies inside or wait for clearer weather to test our planes and see which predictions were correct! Stay tuned! 🚀✨

🌟💜 Respect in Action in Year 1/2 💜🌟

This half term, children right across Badger Hill, from Nursery through to Year 6, are exploring ‘Me and My Relationships’ in PSHE. 💜🤝

As part of their learning, our Year 1/2 children have been thinking about how we can all... work together to make our classroom a happy, safe place to learn. 🏫💭

The children explored some important questions:

What jobs does our teacher have in our classroom?
How can we help our teacher?
How can we help each other?
Does our behaviour help other people in the classroom?

This led to a fantastic discussion about how listening to one another helps everyone to learn. The children decided that keeping each other safe is everyone’s responsibility and that being kind, helpful and looking out for one another helps to make our classroom a happy place to be. 💜🤝

They then had a go at creating their own classroom rules, putting lots of care, thought and effort into their work. It was lovely to hear them chatting together about what makes Badger Hill such a brilliant place to be. ✏️⭐

Well done, Year 1/2. You demonstrated our Badger Value of Respect beautifully throughout the lesson by listening carefully to one another, taking turns to speak and valuing each other’s ideas. 🦡💜

💜🤝 Teamwork in Year 6 🤝💜

This half term, children right across Badger Hill, from Nursery through to Year 6, are exploring ‘Me and My Relationships’ in PSHE. Our Year 6 children kicked off their PSHE learning with a challenge that certainly put their teamwork skills to the ...test. ⭐

Working in teams, the children were challenged to build a 30cm bridge using only art straws and tape. The bridge needed to be strong and successful, but there was another equally important challenge – demonstrating fantastic teamwork along the way. 🌉✂️

It was wonderful to see so much collaboration taking place. The children listened to one another’s ideas, shared responsibilities, solved problems together and encouraged their teammates when things didn’t quite go to plan. They demonstrated our Badger Values of Respect, Resilience and Team Spirit beautifully. 💜🦡

Mrs Easby happened to walk into the classroom just before the all-important judging, which conveniently took the tricky decision out of Mrs Morgan’s hands. 👀😂 There were some brilliant bridges, but what stood out most was how well every group had worked together.

What a fun and engaging way to begin our PSHE learning for the year and to remind ourselves that achieving something together is about much more than the finished result. 🌟🤝
