🌊🐚 Reception's Seaside Adventures! ☀️🏖️
What a fantastic time we've had in Reception!
We have been learning all about Saltburn, our nearest seaside resort. The children discovered why so many people love to visit, including the famous cliff lift, Saltburn ...Pier and, of course, the delicious ice cream! 🍦🌊
✍️ In our writing area, we created our own postcards from Saltburn to send to family and friends.
🪼 Inspired by our class story, The Search for the Giant Arctic Jellyfish, we made colourful jellyfish puppets in our malleable area.
🐚 In Maths, we used shells to practise doubling, while in our Art and Construction areas we created fantastic under-the-sea scenes full of imagination and creativity. 🎨🐠
🧲 Outside, we became treasure hunters, using our knowledge of magnets and metals to search for the buried treasure that Mrs Lyth had hidden for us. 🏴☠️💰
The children have shown fantastic curiosity, creativity and enthusiasm throughout their learning, and we are so proud of all they have achieved. 🌟💙
What a wonderful seaside adventure it has been! 🌊✨

We were absolutely thrilled to welcome a very special guest to hand out some well-deserved awards to our incredible Year 4 and Year 5 students! ⚽️✨
A huge thank you to ex-Sunderland player and American football scholar, Daisy ...Cook, who visited us to present the children with their official certificates following their massive success at the recent NET Games competition! 🥇📜
Our young athletes showed incredible teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Having an inspiring role model like Daisy—who has taken her game all the way from Sunderland AFC to the US college system—made the moment even more unforgettable.
A massive congratulations to all of our Year 4 & 5 superstars—you have made the whole school incredibly proud! 🙌🌟

☀️🌍 Last Term, Year 5 Explored the Power of Solar Energy! ⚡🗺️
Last term, our Year 5 geographers investigated how humans use the Earth's natural resources to generate electricity. We focused on a fascinating real-world case study: Bhadla Solar Park in the Thar Desert of ...Rajasthan, India. 🇮🇳☀️
The children discovered that this incredible renewable energy project covers an astonishing 14,000 acres—that's roughly the size of 10,000 football pitches! ⚽ It is home to more than 10 million solar panels, generating clean energy for millions of people while helping to protect our planet. 🌱💚
After exploring the positive impact of the Rajasthan project, Year 5 became independent researchers. 🕵️📚 They analysed a range of articles and carried out their own research to investigate both the advantages and disadvantages of solar power, considering one key question: Is solar energy truly sustainable? 🤔
The class then split into two teams and took part in a structured, formal debate. 🎤👏
Through their research, the children carefully weighed up the evidence. They recognised that solar power's greatest strength is that it uses sunlight—a completely renewable resource that will never run out. ☀️♻️ However, they also uncovered an important modern challenge. While solar panels can last 25–30 years, recycling them at the end of their lifespan is currently complex and costly, meaning that many decommissioned panels still end up in landfill. 🚮
Well done, Year 5! 👏 We were incredibly impressed with the quality of your research, the confidence of your arguments, and the respectful way you listened to and challenged each other's ideas. You should all be very proud of yourselves! 🌟💛

At the end of the summer term, Year 6 explored the Jewish concept of Tikkun Olam—the idea of “repairing the world” through acts of kindness, care, and responsibility 🌍✨
In response to the question “How do Jews live by the principles of Tikkun Olam?”, the children created ...thoughtful and creative “hands” to show their learning. Each hand included five ways to spread kindness, alongside beautiful symbols and illustrations to represent what this looks like in everyday life.
Their ideas included:
💛 Spending time with family
😊 Smiling at others
👂 Listening carefully
🤝 Helping those in need
🍲 Supporting the poor and vulnerable
The work showed real reflection and understanding of how small actions can make a big difference in the world. We are very proud of the empathy, creativity and maturity Year 6 showed in this RE learning 🌟👏
