📚 Wanted: Reading Ambassadors 📚

Mrs Easby is on the hunt for a new team of Reading Ambassadors for this academic year! 🔎📖

Our Reading Ambassadors help Mrs Easby and our soon-to-be-announced Year 6 Leaders of Reading to manage the library, order new books, make ...decisions around reading at Badger Hill and, of course, get involved in all things books! 💜📚

Children can apply to be a Reading Ambassador by submitting:

✏️ A written letter
🎨 A drawing or poster
🎥 A short video sent via ClassDojo explaining why they would be perfect for the role

📅 Deadline: Applications must be in by Friday 2nd October.

Mrs Easby and our Year 6 Leaders of Reading will then review all the applications together to choose this year’s team. 📖💜

🕌 Y3/4 Visit to Middlesbrough Mosque 🌍

Our Year 3/4 children recently enjoyed a visit to Middlesbrough Mosque, giving them the opportunity to experience and learn more about different cultures, faiths and beliefs within the wider community. 💜

During the visit, the ...children explored the Five Pillars of Islam and learned about some of the beliefs and practices that are important to Muslims. They also discussed some of the different ways in which Muslims may express their faith in everyday life.

The children explored the meaning of the word Islam and took part in an Agree or Disagree activity, encouraging them to listen, think carefully, share their ideas and ask thoughtful questions. 💭

They also learned about prayer in Islam, including the five daily prayers, and discovered more about the Ka'bah in Makkah and why it is significant to Muslims around the world. 🕌

What a valuable opportunity to learn about the world beyond our school! 🌍 Experiences like this help our children to develop their curiosity, broaden their understanding and put our Badger Values of Respect and Empathy into practice. They also support our children’s understanding of the British Values of mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs, helping them to appreciate and respect the diverse communities that make up modern Britain. 🤝

A big thank you to everyone at Middlesbrough Mosque for welcoming our children so warmly and sharing their knowledge with us. 💜

We’re looking forward to our Year 5 and 6 children having the opportunity to visit next week.

🗳️ Democracy in Action at Badger Hill 🗳️

The ballot box has been busy at Badger Hill as children and staff from across school cast their votes to choose our new Head Students. 💜

After listening to the brilliant Year 6 Junior Leadership Team speeches, everyone had the ...chance to consider the candidates before making their choice and casting their vote.

It was a fantastic way for our children to see the British Value of Democracy in action. 🗳️ They experienced first-hand how people can have their say, how every vote matters and how decisions can be made through a fair and democratic process.

We were so proud of every Year 6 pupil who put themselves forward, stood in front of others and shared what they could bring to a leadership role within our school.

What a brilliant example of democracy in action! 💜

The ballot box is now closed and we’ll soon be counting the votes. 👀 Our Head Students, along with the rest of our Junior Leadership Team, will be announced at our Year 6 Fish and Tips evening on Thursday 1st October.

🌟 Another Amazing Week in Reception 🌟

We have had a lovely week in Reception, learning all about ourselves and what makes each of us unique. 💜

We have explored the ways we are the same and different, from our eye colour to our height, and thought about all the things that... make each of us special.

🎨 In our areas, we have been creating face collages while developing our cutting skills, making faces to show different emotions and practising following different marks.

🔢 In maths, we have been busy making and sorting different objects, developing our early mathematical skills through lots of practical, hands-on learning.

🌈 Outside, we have enjoyed colour mixing in the water area, building different places and drawing places that are special to us.

🛝 One of the highlights of the week was finally having a go on our climbing frame. The children were so excited and kept asking Mrs Lyth when it would be their turn. They showed fantastic enthusiasm, confidence and determination as they climbed, explored and challenged themselves. It was wonderful to see just how proud they were of their achievements.

💜 Reception Throwback 💜

A little throwback to our Reception children on their very first day. 🥹📸

It is hard to believe how much has changed in just a few weeks. It has been so lovely to watch the children settle into Reception, grow in confidence, learn new routines ...and begin to form new friendships.

Mrs Lyth has loved getting to know each of them and seeing their wonderful personalities shine through more and more each day. 🌟

We are so proud of how brilliantly they have settled in and cannot wait to see what the rest of their Reception year brings. 🐾💜

💜💚 GET INVOLVED AT BADGER HILL 💚💜

We are looking for pupils who would like to get involved in making a difference across our academy.

💜 Year 5/6 Wellbeing Ambassadors
Working alongside Mrs McCready and our Year 6 Leaders of Wellbeing, our Wellbeing Ambassadors ...help us to promote positive mental wellbeing across school. This could include leading assemblies, supporting events such as Children’s Mental Health Week or even coming up with their own ideas, such as lunchtime clubs and activities.

📚 Year 1–5 Reading Ambassadors
Our Reading Ambassadors work alongside Mrs Easby and our Year 6 Leaders of Reading to help promote a love of reading across Badger Hill. They may help to choose new books for our library and book vending machine, share their ideas and help us organise special events such as World Book Day.

⚽ Year 1–5 Sports Council
Working with Miss Cook and our Year 6 Sports Captains, the Sports Council will have a voice in sport and active play across the academy. They may help us think about playground equipment and activities, support other pupils at playtimes and get involved in events such as Sports Day and our Spirit of the Games assemblies. Older pupils may also have opportunities such as Playground Leader training.

These roles are shaped by the children themselves, so we are excited to hear their ideas about what they would like to do and how they could make a difference at Badger Hill.
