📚✨ We are authors ✨📚
We were delighted to welcome author James Harris into school, where he spoke to the children about his work writing children’s stories.
Reading is at the heart of life at Badger Hill, and we place great importance on developing a love of books, ...stories and language. Opportunities like this help bring reading and writing to life, giving our children the chance to meet authors, hear about their experiences and see where a love of stories can lead. 💜📖
The children thoroughly enjoyed listening to James talk about growing up in the 1970s and discovering how he uses his imagination to create the characters, names and stories in his books.
James then worked with every year group, from Reception right through to Year 6, exploring the exciting process of designing their very own characters. Using his fantastic Monster Generator, the children chose numbers which revealed different features to add to their monsters. 👹✏️
It was brilliant to see the children brimming with ideas, using their imaginations and beginning to think about the exciting stories they could tell about their creations.
A huge thank you to James for spending the day with us and inspiring so many young readers and storytellers. We would absolutely love to hear about any stories our children go on to write about their wonderful monsters. 🌟📚

🌟 What a fantastic first full week in Reception 🌟
The children have settled in brilliantly, and we are so proud of them. 💜 They have worked incredibly hard, especially during their very first phonics lessons. Mrs Lyth has been so impressed with how well they have listened, joined ...in and had a go. 📚✨
This week, we have been busy getting to know one another and learning all about ourselves. We have talked about our families, our homes and the things we like. The children have been fantastic at sharing their ideas in a group, taking turns and listening carefully to what their friends have to say. 🏡👨👩👧👦
We have loved seeing our ‘All About Me’ theme come to life in the classroom. The children have painted their own self-portraits on paper plates, sorted each other by hair colour, created representations of themselves using loose parts, cared for and washed babies just like they might do at home, and even built their own homes. 🎨🧸
It has been such a lovely start to Reception, and we couldn’t be prouder of how well the children have done. We can’t wait to see what they get up to next week. 🌈💜

What a fantastic start to the term! 🎈 We’ve loved welcoming new friends into our setting and jumping straight into exciting activities.
Inside, we explored our facial features by carefully crafting playdough faces with two eyes, one nose, and one mouth. Over at the tuff tray, we ...became little dentists as we investigated toothbrushes and practiced brushing teeth! 🪥
Outside, the children showed off their gross motor skills by zooming around the track and conquering the climbing frame. Down in the mud kitchen, the air smelled divine as we used a mortar and pestle to crush fresh lavender for some lovely sensory tea. 🌿☕
To wrap it all up, we filled the room with music! Incy Wincy Spider was our top-requested rhyme, and Three Currant Buns in a Baker’s Shop brought our maths counting to life. 🧁🕷️
What a wonderful week!

What a fantastic first full week back in Nursery! 🌟
Our little learners have settled in remarkably well after the summer holidays, filling our classroom with happy smiles, new friendships, and lots of wonderful learning.
Here is a look at what we’ve been up to this week:
...🎨 "All About Me" Self-Portraits We kicked off our new topic by looking closely at mirror reflections and photos of ourselves. The children thought carefully about their unique features: 👀 What colour are my eyes? 💇 Is my hair long, short, straight, or curly? Their fantastic artwork will soon be featured on our new Portrait Gallery Wall! 🖼️✨
🦷 Little Dentists in Action In our investigation space, the children loved exploring our dentist kit tuff tray! They had brilliant discussions about how to take care of our teeth, why brushing is so important, and what happens when we don't look after them properly. 🪥😁
Thank you to all our Nursery families for supporting such a smooth transition back to school. Have a wonderful weekend! 🌈😊
