🌟💜 Respect in Action in Year 1/2 💜🌟

This half term, children right across Badger Hill, from Nursery through to Year 6, are exploring ‘Me and My Relationships’ in PSHE. 💜🤝

As part of their learning, our Year 1/2 children have been thinking about how we can all... work together to make our classroom a happy, safe place to learn. 🏫💭

The children explored some important questions:

What jobs does our teacher have in our classroom?
How can we help our teacher?
How can we help each other?
Does our behaviour help other people in the classroom?

This led to a fantastic discussion about how listening to one another helps everyone to learn. The children decided that keeping each other safe is everyone’s responsibility and that being kind, helpful and looking out for one another helps to make our classroom a happy place to be. 💜🤝

They then had a go at creating their own classroom rules, putting lots of care, thought and effort into their work. It was lovely to hear them chatting together about what makes Badger Hill such a brilliant place to be. ✏️⭐

Well done, Year 1/2. You demonstrated our Badger Value of Respect beautifully throughout the lesson by listening carefully to one another, taking turns to speak and valuing each other’s ideas. 🦡💜

💜🤝 Teamwork in Year 6 🤝💜

This half term, children right across Badger Hill, from Nursery through to Year 6, are exploring ‘Me and My Relationships’ in PSHE. Our Year 6 children kicked off their PSHE learning with a challenge that certainly put their teamwork skills to the ...test. ⭐

Working in teams, the children were challenged to build a 30cm bridge using only art straws and tape. The bridge needed to be strong and successful, but there was another equally important challenge – demonstrating fantastic teamwork along the way. 🌉✂️

It was wonderful to see so much collaboration taking place. The children listened to one another’s ideas, shared responsibilities, solved problems together and encouraged their teammates when things didn’t quite go to plan. They demonstrated our Badger Values of Respect, Resilience and Team Spirit beautifully. 💜🦡

Mrs Easby happened to walk into the classroom just before the all-important judging, which conveniently took the tricky decision out of Mrs Morgan’s hands. 👀😂 There were some brilliant bridges, but what stood out most was how well every group had worked together.

What a fun and engaging way to begin our PSHE learning for the year and to remind ourselves that achieving something together is about much more than the finished result. 🌟🤝

🏴‍☠️⚓ Pirate PE in Reception ⚓🏴‍☠️

Our Reception children had a brilliant second PE lesson today, taking on the challenge of becoming pirates. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

We have been practising how to stop in a balanced position on our feet, using small steps... to help us come to a controlled stop. The children also worked hard on listening carefully to instructions and finding their own space safely. 👂⭐

Mrs Lyth was super impressed by everyone’s willingness to have a go and keep trying, especially when balancing after movement became a little tricky. 💪

We then worked together in teams to jump our way towards the treasure before working as a team to capture it. 🏴‍☠️💰 There was lots of teamwork, careful listening and perseverance throughout the lesson.

It was lovely to see our Badger Values in action too, with the children showing fantastic Team Spirit and Resilience as they supported one another and kept trying. 💜⭐

Well done, Reception. What brilliant little pirates you were! 🏴‍☠️👏

🌟💜 We Are Proud 💜🌟

Last week’s PROUD was an extra special one as we were joined by our Director of Maths, Mr McVittie, and our Director of English, Mrs Warner-Stirling, alongside our Senior Leadership Team. ⭐

It was wonderful to spend time looking through so many ...fantastic examples of work from across the school. Our children were so proud to share what they had been learning and talk about the hard work that had gone into their books. 📚✏️

There was so much to celebrate, and seeing the pride on our children’s faces as they shared their achievements is exactly what PROUD is all about. 💜⭐

A huge well done to all of the children who shared their work with us. We are very PROUD of you. 🦡💜

We have recently been made aware of an emerging online safety concern involving AI-generated ‘fruit’ and ‘vegetable’ videos, which are increasingly appearing across short-form video platforms.

These videos can initially appear humorous, colourful and child-friendly, often featuring... animated fruit or vegetables in fictional storylines involving relationships, family disagreements, betrayal or other dramatic scenarios. However, researchers have identified a more concerning strand of this content in which the same child-friendly visual style is used to present graphic violence, domestic abuse themes, extreme violence and references to violent extremist ideologies.

A recent analysis by the Global Network on Extremism and Technology (GNET) identified examples of AI-generated fruit and vegetable videos depicting extreme violence and content referencing terrorist and violent extremist material. The researchers highlighted concerns that the familiar, cartoon-like appearance can make disturbing material less immediately obvious to viewers.

🦴 Busy Bodies 💪

Reception have been learning all about their bodies this week. We’ve had a brilliant start, beginning with lots of fun labelling Mrs Lyth and identifying all of her different body parts. We talked about what our body parts are used for and why they are so important.... 🧍‍♀️

We also enjoyed reading Funny Bones and learning all about our skeletons, including how they help us to move and keep our bodies supported. 💀📚
Our provision has been full of exciting body-themed activities. The children have been busy labelling body parts, creating their own skeleton people, making body parts using playdough and measuring themselves ready for our lovely class display. 🎨📏

Outside, we’ve continued to explore all of our different areas while developing our gross motor skills. This has given us lots of opportunities to talk about how our bodies move, which body parts work together and how we use our bodies for different activities. 🌳🏃

We’ve also started our maths learning this week, and it has been lovely to see the excitement on the children’s faces as they received their very own maths books. They are already working hard and aiming high. 📚⭐
