☀️🌍 Last Term, Year 5 Explored the Power of Solar Energy! ⚡🗺️
Last term, our Year 5 geographers investigated how humans use the Earth's natural resources to generate electricity. We focused on a fascinating real-world case study: Bhadla Solar Park in the Thar Desert of ...Rajasthan, India. 🇮🇳☀️
The children discovered that this incredible renewable energy project covers an astonishing 14,000 acres—that's roughly the size of 10,000 football pitches! ⚽ It is home to more than 10 million solar panels, generating clean energy for millions of people while helping to protect our planet. 🌱💚
After exploring the positive impact of the Rajasthan project, Year 5 became independent researchers. 🕵️📚 They analysed a range of articles and carried out their own research to investigate both the advantages and disadvantages of solar power, considering one key question: Is solar energy truly sustainable? 🤔
The class then split into two teams and took part in a structured, formal debate. 🎤👏
Through their research, the children carefully weighed up the evidence. They recognised that solar power's greatest strength is that it uses sunlight—a completely renewable resource that will never run out. ☀️♻️ However, they also uncovered an important modern challenge. While solar panels can last 25–30 years, recycling them at the end of their lifespan is currently complex and costly, meaning that many decommissioned panels still end up in landfill. 🚮
Well done, Year 5! 👏 We were incredibly impressed with the quality of your research, the confidence of your arguments, and the respectful way you listened to and challenged each other's ideas. You should all be very proud of yourselves! 🌟💛

At the end of the summer term, Year 6 explored the Jewish concept of Tikkun Olam—the idea of “repairing the world” through acts of kindness, care, and responsibility 🌍✨
In response to the question “How do Jews live by the principles of Tikkun Olam?”, the children created ...thoughtful and creative “hands” to show their learning. Each hand included five ways to spread kindness, alongside beautiful symbols and illustrations to represent what this looks like in everyday life.
Their ideas included:
💛 Spending time with family
😊 Smiling at others
👂 Listening carefully
🤝 Helping those in need
🍲 Supporting the poor and vulnerable
The work showed real reflection and understanding of how small actions can make a big difference in the world. We are very proud of the empathy, creativity and maturity Year 6 showed in this RE learning 🌟👏

🏴☠️🐠 Nursery's Pirate Adventures & Under-the-Sea Fun! 🌊✨
Ahoy, families! 🏴☠️⚓
Our Nursery children had an action-packed time as they journeyed from their seaside topic into the exciting world of pirates and deep-sea adventures! Here's a ...look at some of the fantastic learning they enjoyed:
🗺️ Pirate Maths & Treasure Hunts
Following our pirate theme, the children explored the language of position in maths. They put their new vocabulary into practice by using treasure maps to hunt for buried treasure, learning words such as under, over, next to and behind along the way. 🏝️💰
🦈 Walking the Plank!
Our water area became the setting for lots of imaginative role play! The children built planks and helped their toy pirates "walk the plank" into shark-infested waters. Thankfully, every pirate managed to escape the hungry sharks! 🌊🏴☠️
🌈 Story Focus: The Rainbow Fish
Our focus story inspired lots of wonderful creativity across the classroom.
🎨 Art
The children explored the magic of watercolours, carefully painting and blending colours to create beautiful shimmering ocean scenes. 🖌️🐟
✨ Playdough Area
Using playdough, the children developed their fine motor skills by moulding their own fish before carefully adding sparkly sequins to create the Rainbow Fish's famous shiny scales. 💙🌈
We are incredibly proud of how well the children collaborated, shared ideas and used their wonderful imaginations throughout their learning. What a fantastic pirate adventure it was! 🌟🏴☠️🐠

🏴☠️🌊 Our 2-Year-Old Pirates Had a Fantastic Adventure! 🌊🏴☠️
Our 2-year-olds had a wonderful time exploring pirates and the sea through a range of fun, hands-on activities! ⚓✨
We enjoyed sharing the stories 10 Little Pirates and Pirates Love ...Underpants, with the children loving every minute as they listened and joined in with the adventures. 📚🏴☠️
In maths, the children completed a simple parrot and island puzzle, developing their problem-solving skills while having lots of fun. 🦜🧩
During the warm weather, we cooled down outdoors by dipping our bare feet into a water-filled tuff tray. 💦👣 The children loved walking through the water and splashing their little toes! Ollie exclaimed, "It is very cold," while Edie smiled and said, "It is cool." 😊
Our creative pirates also made a colourful pirate ship and a beautiful rainbow fish using paper plates and tissue paper, developing their creativity and fine motor skills. 🎨🐠
In our sensory area, the children explored blue jelly with hidden fish inside, enjoying the challenge of finding them. They loved getting messy as they squeezed, squashed and explored the jelly with their hands. 💙🪼
To build their gross motor skills, the children practised pouring water from jugs into cups and had great fun walking the plank, helping to develop their balance and coordination. ⚖️🚶☠️
We finished our pirate adventures by singing lots of pirate songs, with the children enthusiastically joining in with the actions and words. 🎶☠️
What a brilliant pirate-themed learning adventure it was! 🌊⚓🏴☠️💙

💜 Passing the Purple Jumper 💜
One of our favourite Badger Hill traditions took place in assembly as our current Year 6 pupils proudly handed over the iconic purple jumpers to our soon-to-be Year 6 children.
It’s such a special moment for everyone in our school community ...– a symbolic passing of the baton, marking the end of one incredible journey and the beginning of another.
Our Year 6 pupils have worn their purple jumpers with pride, demonstrating leadership, kindness and resilience throughout the year. As they prepare for their next adventure, they leave behind a wonderful legacy for the children who will soon step into their shoes.
To our new Year 6s – wear your purple jumpers with pride, embrace every opportunity, be fantastic role models and make every moment count. We know you’ll do yourselves, your families and our school proud. 🌟
Congratulations to both our outgoing and incoming Year 6 pupils on this very special Badger Hill tradition. 💜🎉
